5 Things

I love London. Much more to come soon, but here are 5 things I have already learned (intermixed with some photos :)).

5. Black tea sounds like black coffee when you have a foreign accent. #fail.

4. Don't go against the flow of traffic in the tube station. Nasty glares will ensue.

3. When crossing the street, ensure you are on the side farthest away from oncoming traffic, just to be on the safe side!

2. You should eat everything with a fork and knife to be polite, but no need to switch your fork. Have to say that I will eat everything with a fork and knife, but I'm not risking getting into the habit of switching forks (if I do my mother will send me to the garage to eat with the dogs when I come back!).

1. You have to flag down the waitress to get your bill. I think I need to get better at flagging or just start making my estimates for lunch 15 minutes longer!

Orientation, physical and mental!

Hello All! Just got back from our first orientation meetings, somehow I have earned the duty of group navigator. Its a good thing that I have a good sense of direction to go along with my bossy attitude.

Yesterday, we walked around Oxford Street and went window shopping. Then I took myself out for a lovely afternoon tea. I wrote my Mom and Dad a letter, but before you get too impressed lets see how long it takes me to get it in the mail. I also am completely up to date on my journal, which is a bit of a feat for me! Then it was just a quiet dinner at the pub in the dorm before ATTEMPTING to sleep. I say attempting due to the dance party in the room next door, the fact that I'm sleeping on a box spring, and that some guy burst into our "locked" room... strange.

I am here! In beautiful snowy London! We had to circle Heathrow for a while before we landed but it was absolutely picturesque when we could see the sunrise over the clouds!

When I got in, the cab driver had the wrong address. He very much wanted me to get out of the cab on this little residential street. Luckily I was brave enough to stick to my guns and so he charged me an arm and a leg and hates me but luckily the odds are against me ever running into him again!

I am currently at the british version of Panera, and eating dark chocolate spread on organic wheat bread because I honestly didn't know what anything else on the menu was... It's a good thing I came to London, turns out I don't know English as well as I thought!

I'm leaving on a Jet Plane...

Don't know when I'll be back again.
(okay I'm being dramatic I have tickets for May 12th)

My life is packed.

I have probably packed wayyyyy too much to take with me. I'm sitting waiting for my first flight and crossing my fingers that it stops snowing in London so I can get there!

After my system not agreeing with the in flight dinner... I survived and have spent the day doing easy bus tours of the city.

I have to say I'm finding the city to make more sense than I expected.... And I already love it more than I imagined! I can't wait to walk around and hit a pub for dinner before a very welcome (and early) bedtime!

Tomorrow is the start of my adventures across the pond... Okay well not quite since I don't actually land until Wednesday but close enough!

I am mostly packed, but have all sorts of odds and ends to do in the morning.

Right now as I lay in bed... And can't fall asleep... I am overwhelmed with how lucky I am.

I hope that I will be able to post updates as I go along.

Secretariat

I am a sucker for horse movies, especially ones with happy endings (more on War Horse later...)

I got a copy of Secretariat for christmas and was reminded of the major clothes envy I have for that time period!
